The Last Challenge

"In the sports world, homophobia is tolerated. It's the one minority that seems to be fair game."

"The Last Challenge" the latest film in production by filmmaker and Academy Award Nominee Dr. Dee Mosbacher and Co-Producer GJ Stillson MacDonnell takes on the pervasive issue of homophobia in sports. Homophobia in sports is considered one of the last great challenges faced by all who are involved in sports- be they student or professional athletes, coaches, athletic directors, or spectators. While much has changed regarding this issue, much remains to be done. Athletes and coaches are still harassed, physically and emotionally injured, and barred from participating in sport.

The 27 minute documentary presents exclusive interviews with prominent athletes, coaches and trainers who share emotional stories about LGBT discrimination - its ramifications and its remedies. The film features never before seen interviews and footage from the first ever Homophobia in Sports Conference held in March 2003.

"The reactions that I got from players were kind of, you know, shunning away from me, friendships ended, coaches kind of turned their backs on me. They didn't give me the support that I used to get the three years before when they thought I was straight."
    - Julie Soon-Flynn, high school & College Field Hockey Player

Look for "The Last Challenge" to be completed in 2005.
